(a) What do you mean by Environmental determinism?

Ans:- Environmental determinism, also known as climate determinism or geographic determinism, is the belief that the physical environment drives human social development towards particular trajectories.

(b) What are the problems of human settlement in developing countries?

Ans:- Settlements in developing countries suffer from various problems such as unsustainable concentration of population, overcrowded housing and streets, lack of drinking water facilities. They also lack basic infrastructure such as electricity, sewage disposal, health, and educational facilities.

(c) Write two socio-economic factors responsible for distribution of population.

Ans:- Socio-economic Factors: The important Socio-economic factors are:

(i) Minerals: Minerals are not available all over the world. Some areas are rich in minerals while some areas are devoid of minerals. Therefore, areas with more mineral deposits are densely populated.

(ii) Urbanization: Cities offer better opportunities in all respects. Therefore, all urbanized areas are densely populated.

(d) Why India is called a land of villages? Justify.

Ans:- India is a country of villages as more than 72.2% of the population lives in over 58 lakh villages of various sizes.

Providing social services and facilities to all these rural settlements is a mammoth task.

(e) What are the two bases of Indian migration?

Ans:- Internal migration and International migration.
