(a) Write two definitions of Geography.

Ans:- The word 'geography' is derived from the Greek word’s 'geo' and 'graphene', which translate to earth description or earth writing. Geography involves the study of different places on the Earth's surface, their diverse environments, and the interactions between them.

This academic discipline studies the characteristics of the natural environment of a place, the populations that live there, and the various interactions that occur.

(b) Name two neighbouring countries of India.

Ans:- Nepal, Bhutan.

(c) Name any two different expressions of humidity.

Ans:- Humidity has two different manifestations:-

(i) Absolute humidity: The amount of water vapor in 1 cubic meter. Absolute humidity of air is the absolute humidity of the air.

(ii) Relative humidity: The amount of water vapor present in the air can be expressed as a percentage of the amount required for saturation at the same temperature and same volume. It is expressed in percentage.

(d) Name two local storms of hot weather seasons in India.

Ans:- Local hot weather storms in India aid the growth of crops.

Some of the famous local storms of hot season in India are:-

(i) Mango rains: Towards the end of summer, pre-monsoon rains occur which is a common phenomenon in the coastal areas of Kerala and Karnataka. These are locally known as mango rains as they help in ripening the mangoes quickly.

(ii) Blossom Shower: This shower brings bloom of coffee flowers in Kerala and surrounding areas.

(e) Name two biosphere reserves of Assam.

Ans:- (i) Manas Wildlife Sanctuary.

(ii) Dibru-Saikhowa BR.

(f) Mention any two conditions necessary for the occurrence of temperature inversion.

Ans:- Two conditions are necessary for the occurrence of temperature inversion:-

(i) Long winter nights: Heat loss by terrestrial radiation from the ground surface during the night may exceed the amount of incoming solar radiation.

(ii) Cloudless and clear sky: Heat loss through terrestrial radiation occurs more rapidly than without interruption.
