1. Why Red Sea has high salinity? Give one reason. 1

Ans:- High evaporation and low rainfall.

2. Name any two states of India where subsistance agriculture is practised. 1⁄2×2=1

Ans:- Intensive subsistence farming is done in densely populated areas of Haryana, Punjab.

3. Name the ocean which has the largest number of trenches. 1

Ans:- The Pacific Ocean has the highest number of oceanic trenches.

4. Write the names of terminal stations of North-South corridor. 1⁄2×2=1

Ans:- Southern terminal station of the North-South corridor at Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. Kochi in Kerala is also considered the terminal station of the south.

5. Define a glacier. Name any two landforms created by glacial erosion. 1+1=2

Ans:- A glacier is a body of dense ice that moves under its own weight. Glaciers form when ice continues to accumulate for many years, often centuries, and this accumulation exceeds filtration. U-shaped valleys, Cirques.

6. Define density of population. What is the density of population of India according to census 2001? 1+1=2

Ans:- Population density is the number of people per unit of area. It is often calculated for a country, city, county or region.

According to the 2001 census, India's population density was 324 persons per square kilometer. This was an increase of 21.3% from 1991. In 1951, India's population density was 117 persons per square kilometer.

7. "The continental shelves are of great importance to man." Support this statement by giving any two arguments. 1×2=2

Ans:- Continental shelves are also important because they are nursery grounds for living resources. They have abundant plant and animal life because sunlight reaches these parts of the ocean.

8. Explain any two important characteristics of Alpine vegetation found in India. 1×2=2

Ans:- In these alpine tundra, a diverse range of plant species and taxa coexist as a plant community. These include perennial grasses, sedges, forbs, cushion plants, mosses and lichens. Low temperatures, dryness, UV radiation, wind, drought, poorly nourished soils and short growing seasons are among the factors to which alpine plants have adapted.

These forests can be found at altitudes ranging from 2800 meters to 4000 meters. Some important tree species include silver firs, pines, junipers and birches. However, their growth is also hindered at higher latitudes. These are two distinctive features of alpine forests.

9. Differentiate between Human Development and Economic Development. 2

Ans:- Human Development:

(i) Overall welfare of an individual

(ii) Capabilities of individuals

Economic development:

(i) Development of economic sectors of a nation

(ii) the economy as a whole

10. "Geography is an interdisciplinary subject." Examine this statement with four suitable examples. 1×4=4

Ans:- Geography is an interdisciplinary subject because it integrates knowledge from different fields, such as: physical sciences, social sciences, environmental studies.

Geography is interdisciplinary because:

(i) Space and space affect various subjects, such as economics, health, climate, plants and animals.

(ii) It helps in understanding the complex relationships between various natural and human phenomena and how they influence each other.

(iii) It looks at the causes and effects of the arrangement of various cultural and natural features of the earth's surface.
