10. In which four ways nutrients might get lost while pre-preparing vegetables?  2

Ans:- Here are four ways nutrients can be lost when preparing vegetables:

(i) Peeling: Nutrients are concentrated just below the skin of vegetables and fruits. Peeling before boiling may increase the loss of vitamin C, folic acid and other B vitamins.

(ii) Washing: When vegetables are cut, then washed, and the excess water in which they were boiled is thrown away, minerals may be lost.

(iii) Boiling: When foods are boiled or soaked in water and the water is thrown away the nutrients like Vitamin B and C may be destroyed.

(iv) Fat: Nutrients like Vitamin A may be destroyed when fat is used for cooking.

11. Give four reasons for planning meals. 2

Ans:- There are four reasons for planning meals:-

(i) Improve your nutrition: By planning in advance, you can aim to eat nutritionally balanced meals throughout the week. For example, you can make sure each of your dinners has the expected vegetables, proteins, and grains.

(ii) Choose healthy options: If you have to bring something to eat at the last minute, you will probably go out for dinner.

(iii) Eat high-quality foods: Homemade meals are almost always more nutrient-rich and loaded with fewer calories, salt, and fat than quickly prepared options at your grocery store.

(iv) Save money: Having a meal plan saves you from throwing away forgotten ingredients in the fridge.

12. How does vaccination help in acquiring immunity? 2

Ans:- Vaccines can train your body to prevent diseases before they start. They do this by introducing something called an antigen into the body, which mimics an infection and causes the immune system to respond.

13. Why is ORS given to diarrhoea patients? 2

Ans:- Oral rehydration solution (ORS) is used to treat moderate dehydration caused by diarrhea or vomiting. ORS is made up of water, glucose, sodium and potassium. The glucose present in ORS helps the intestines to absorb fluids and salt more efficiently.

ORS does not stop diarrhea, but it replaces lost fluids and essential salts. It prevents or treats dehydration and reduces the risk of dehydration.

14. What information do care labels of garments indicate? 2

Ans:- Care labels on clothing may indicate:

(i) How to clean the garment, such as dry cleaning or hand washing.

(ii) The temperature at which the fabric can be ironed.

(iii) Temperature of water in which the cloth can be washed.

(iv) Can the cloth be washed in a washing machine?

(v) If the garment can be washed in a washing machine then which setting should be used.

(vi) Information about the composition of the material.

15. How can cotton be differentiated from synthetic clothes by burning test? 2

Ans:- Here are some ways to distinguish cotton from synthetic fabrics using the burning test:

(i) Cotton: Cotton fibers start burning when brought near the flame. They burn rapidly with a yellow flame, smell like burning paper or hair, and leave behind soft, brown ash.

(ii) Synthetic fibres: Synthetic fibers get twisted and melted by heat. They smell like burning plastic and leave behind fine beads.
