(a) The components of biotic environment are air, temperature and moisture.

(b) Population is a group of individuals of the same species occupying a given area at a given time.

(c) The Wildlife Protection Act was enacted in the year 1972 in India.

(d) Groundwater is a non-renewable kind of natural resource.

(e) The causal organism of cholera is vibrio.

2. Write very short answers of the following:  1×5=5

(a) What is the role of ozone present in the stratosphere?

Ans:- Ozone is a gas in the atmosphere that protects everything living on Earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the Sun. Without the ozone layer in the atmosphere, it would be very difficult for anything to survive on the surface.

(b) What is trophic level?

Ans:- Each organism in an ecosystem can be assigned a food level, called a trophic level. Living organisms which obtain energy from the same source are said to be of the same trophic level. Thus, green plants would be grouped in the first trophic level (producers), herbivores in the second trophic level (primary consumers), carnivores in the third (secondary consumers) and so on.

(c) Mention two conservative measures for land resource.

Ans:- Here are two conservative measures for land resources:-

(i) Afforestation: It is the process of planting trees in deforested areas. Trees help prevent soil erosion and improve soil quality. They also provide habitat to wildlife and help regulate the climate.

(ii) Proper grazing management: It means controlling the number of animals grazing on a piece of land. Overgrazing can damage the soil and cause erosion. By properly managing grazing, it is possible to protect the soil and keep the land productive.

(d) Name any two principal pollutants emitted by vehicles.

Ans:- Air Pollution & Voice Pollution.

(e) Write the full form of WCED

Ans:- World Commission on Environment and Development.
