(b) Examine critically Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness as a mythical journey of Marlow, in quest of the self to bring back a new truth.

(c) Comment critically on the portrayal of Mr. Kurtz in Heart of Darkness.

(a) Discuss the symbolic significance of ivory in Heart of Darkness.

(b) Attempt a brief character sketch of the Manager in the Central Station in Heart of Darkness.

(c) Discuss the representation of female characters in Heart of Darkness.

(a) Write an analytical note on the use of symbols in Lawrence's Sons and Lovers.

(b) Would you consider Lawrence's Sons and Lovers as a realist modernist novel? Give arguments to support your answer.

(c) Discuss critically how symbols are used to create meaning beyond words in Virginia Woolf’s novel, Mrs. Dalloway.

(a) Explain, in brief, the significance of Clarissa's party in Mrs. Dalloway.

(b) Attempt a character sketch of Hugh Whitbread from your reading of Mrs. Dalloway.

(a) Attempt a critical analysis of Yeats' poem, Leda and the Swan.

(b) Evaluate Yeats' The Second Coming as an apocalyptic poem.

(c) Examine critically the use of symbols and imagery in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.

8. Answer any one of the following questions: 5

(a) Write a note on the underlying theme of Yeats' poem Leda and the Swan.

(b) Explain, in brief, the poem, No Second Troy as a commentary on the political concerns of Maud Gonne.

(c) Explain with reference to the context the following lines:

"Shape without form, shade without colour
