2. Write on/Answer the following in brief:     2x12=24

(a) Two subsistence strategies of the people of Harappa. 

Ans:- (i) The Harappans ate various types of plant products. Archaeologists have been able to reconstruct dietary practices by discovering burnt grains, seeds, and bones.

(ii) They are studied by archaeo-botanists, who are experts in the remains of ancient plants.

(b) The Eight-Fold Path which every Buddhist is expected to follow according to Gautama Buddha,

Ans:- The Noble Eightfold Path is one of the core teachings of the Buddha, who described it as the path leading to the cessation of suffering (dukkha) and the achievement of self-awareness. It is used to develop insight into the true nature of phenomena (or reality) and to eradicate greed, hatred and delusion. The Noble Eightfold Path is the fourth of the Buddha's Four Noble Truths; The first element of the Noble Eightfold Path, in turn, is the understanding of the Four Noble Truths. It is also called the middle path or middle path.

(c) Who were the Panch (five) Pirs? Where are their Dargahs?

(d) Name two travellers whose accounts are important sources to know the social condition of Assam in the 16th and 17th centuries.

(e) Who was the author of Sakari Feti Buranji? Why did Kirtichandra Borbarua destroy these Buranjis?

Ans:- Numali Borgohain. Kirti Chandra Borbarua destroyed many Buranjis because he suspected that they contained information about his lowly birth.

(f) Two contributions of women in an agricultural society.

Ans:- Women in India played certain  roles in agriculture. They sowed, weeded, threshed and harvested crops. With the development of centralized villages and the expansion into individual peasant farming that characterized medieval Indian agriculture, the basis of production was the labor and resources of the entire household. Naturally, gender-based separation between home (for women) and world (for men) was not possible in this context. Yet prejudices related to women's biological functions persisted.
