1. Answer the following questions: 1x12=12

(a) Who was the first Director-General of the Archaeological Survey of India?

Ans:- Alexander Cunningham.

(b) Where was the early capital of Magadha?

Ans:- Rajagriha (Rajgir).

(c) Where was the Gautam Buddha born?

Ans:- Lumbini Sanskritik, Nepal.

(d) What was a mound?

Ans:- When people continue to live in the same place, their continued use and reuse of the landscape results in the formation of occupational debris, called mounds.

(e) Who was the greatest king of the Koch Kingdom?

Ans:- Naranarayan, the son of Biswa Singh.

(f) What was the name of Alberuni’s book in Arabic?

Ans:- Kitab-ul-Hind.

(g) What did Jins-i-Kamil mean?

Ans:- Jins-e-Kamil is a word which literally means "excellent harvest".

(h) Who was the author of the Akbarnamah?

Ans:- Abu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak, (Abul Fazl).

(i) Who were the Sahukars?

Ans:- A moneylender was a person who worked as both a merchant and a moneylender. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Gujarati and Marwari Baniyas began migrating to the villages of the Deccan and became moneylenders there.

(j) Where did the Revolt of 1857 first break-out?

Ans:- The Rebellion of 1857, also known as the Indian Rebellion of 1857 or the Sepoy Mutiny, began on May 10, 1857 in Meerut, India. This rebellion was a rebellion of sepoys in the army of the British East India Company against the British officers.

(k) In which city of India is Fort William situated?

Ans:- Hastings, Calcutta (Kolkata).

(l) Who was the writer of Sare-Jahanse-Accha Hindustan Hamara?

Ans:- Mohammad Iqbal.

2. Answer the following questions in brief: 2x12=24

(a) Give two reasons for considering the waste as useful material to reconstruct history. 

Ans:- Waste can be considered a useful material for reconstructing history for two main reasons.

(i) Firstly, garbage can provide archaeologists with evidence of past activities and practices. For example, tools, unfinished products, and waste materials can help archaeologists identify centers of craft production. They can also help archaeologists learn about the tools and implements used for farming and harvesting, as well as the means of irrigation used in the past.

(ii) Second, garbage can help archaeologists to reconstruct the socio-economic conditions of past societies. For example, the presence of certain types of garbage may indicate the religious or cultural life of the people.

(b) Mention two ways indicated in the Manusmriti for a woman to acquire wealth. 

Ans:- Manusmriti was written by Manu. In this memory Manu gave some rights to women to earn money.

(i) Manusmriti recognizes the right of women to receive gifts on the occasion of marriage.

(ii) The woman may also acquire wealth through any subsequent gifts and any gifts given by her affectionate husband.

(c) What were the four divisions of ancient Kamarupa?

Ans:- There were four divisions of ancient Kamarupa:-

(i) Somara Pitha

(ii) Kamapitha

(iii) Ratna Pitha

(iv) Svarna Pitha.

(d) Write two ideas of Mahavira. 

Ans:- Mahavir's ideas are:-

(i) Not to cause injury to living beings, especially humans, animals, plants and insects.

(ii) He says that the whole world is rich, even stones, rocks and flesh have life.

(e) Name two travelers who visited India in the medieval age. Where from they came?

Ans:- There were two travelers who came to India in the medieval era:-

(i) Al-Biruni and (ii) Ibn-Batutta. 

They came from Uzbekistan and Morocco.

(f) Describe the Alvars and Nayanars in brief. 

Ans:- The Nayanars worshiped Shiva and the Alwars worshiped Vishnu. He was a propagator of the Bhakti movement. Alvar and Vayanar saints traveled from one place to another singing hymns in praise of their deities.

(g) Write two reasons of the popularity of Khwaja Moinuddin’s Dargah.
